This position supports the spiritual vitality and nurturing relationships among residents, their families, and staff as an expression of Christ’s love.  This position carries responsibility for extending the GSV mission through personal ministry to residents and staff.



8-5 (4 days a week)


  • Learns to know as many residents as possible personally and by name.
  • Willing and able to listen with love to what a resident is feeling and saying.
  • Sensitive to the varying needs of each resident in times of illness, pain, and handicap.
  • Befriends those who are lonely, troubled, and depressed.
  • Ministers to the special concerns of women (female Associate Chaplain).
  • Provides pastoral care for persons who experience loss by death, hospitalization, accident, and the general trauma of change.
  • Assists the Chaplain in conducting the Sunday morning worship services and other special religious service as requested.
  • Conducts Bible studies as requested in various areas of the facility.
  • Cooperates with Social Services if asked to share at support groups.
  • Participates in the visitation of residents who become hospitalized.
  • Is able to share the comfort of the Scriptures and Prayer with residents, especially in times of personal need.
  • Develops and maintains a friendly, cooperative relationship with area clergy.
  • Available to officiate or assist a local pastor at the funeral or memorial service of a resident.
  • Frequently involved as an "Advocate" for residents, family, and staff.
  • May be called when off duty in case of emergency


  • Must be a member of a local congregation and able to be licensed/ordained within the congregation or denomination.
  • Must be able to minister in an inter-denominational capacity and be able to love and understand the aging.
  • A minimum of one unit of clinical pastoral education. (Two to three units are recommended.)
